London’s double-decker buses

Even those people who have never been to London know the characteristic red double-decker buses. They seem strange with their split-in-two front end which practically puts the driver on the hood of the bus. The oldest models date back to the fifties and were specially built for London Transport. The Schreiber-model corresponds to the Routemaster RML which was built until 1965. These buses still have conductors, something that would be quite unconceivable in other major cities. Should this ever not be possible any more, then the days of these so lovable double-deckers will be counted, resulting in a partial loss of London’s originality. The reason is that new buses would be bought “off the peg”; anything else would be far too expensive.
